Moving to Chandler? Here’s what you need to know

professional moving company in Chandler

Founded in 1912 by the first veterinary surgeon of Arizona, the City of Chandler has since grown from an agricultural town into a bustling tech-driven city. If you’re planning to move to Chandler, here is everything you need to know.

Facts

Dubbed by the Humana Foundation as one of the nation’s most playful cities for seven years straight, Chandler is no ordinary suburb. It has a growing population of more than 260,000 and more than 107,000 housing units as of Oct. 1, 2019. Chandler is also known for being a relatively diverse city, with a population made up of White, Hispanic, Latino, Asian or Pacific Island, African American, American Indian, and Alaskan Native people.

The average household income was $99,000 in 2018, which was relatively higher than the US average of  $63,179. The housing market in Chandler has also been stronger than that of its neighbors. The median home value of Maricopa County averages at around $220,000. This is almost $35,000 less than their counterparts in Chandler, which is good news for anyone planning to get a place in this city.

The city’s incorporated area spans across 64.90 square miles and contains 64 developed parks.

Government

The government of Chandler takes the form of a Council-Manager; policy-making and administration are two separate entities. Only elected officials can set policies and it is the responsibility of City Council members to select and supervise a City Manager. In turn, the responsibility of a City Manager is to be the chief executive who appoints department heads and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Chandler city government.

Education

Chandler is known as a good place to raise a family as it is well-equipped with educational institutions. There are five public school districts: the Chandler Unified School District located at 1525 W. Frye Road, Gilbert Public School District located at 140 S. Gilbert Road, the Kyrene School District at 8700 S. Kyrene Road, Mesa Unified School District on 549 N. Stapley Drive, and the Tempe Union High School District on 500 W. Guadalupe Road. There are also private faith-based schools and institutions for post-secondary education within proximity of the Chandler community: Valley Christian High School on 6900 W. Galveston Road and ASU - Polytechnic Campus are respective examples.

Community Resources

Being a city catered for the community, the Chandler Public Library, the Chandler Center for the Arts, and the Chandler Parks, Recreation and Aquatics are just some facilities that are great for children and adults alike.

Chandler culture is intertwined with its art scene; the city is in no lack of museums, both public and private art galleries, and publicly-funded artwork. If there is one place you should visit, it is the Arizona Railway Museum. Though it is only opened on the weekends from noon till 4 p.m, the museum is not to be missed. The community works together to preserve the history of the Arizonian railway and their collective efforts are reflected in the Arizona Railway Museum. You can check out the display of restored railway artifacts and mementos of past and present railways at 330 E. Ryan Road, on the southwest corner of Tumbleweed Park.

A collection of more than 600 pieces of art; ranging from oil paintings, acrylics, charcoal drawings, natural stone sculptures, basketry and pottery to jewelry, the Eddie Basha private art collection is a hallmark feature of Chandler art culture. Named after the CEO of the famous Arizonian grocery store chain, the art collection is located on 22402 S. Basha Road, and opened from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m, Monday to Friday.

Synonymous with Arizonian art, the Vision Galley is a fine art and non-profit gallery that represents over 300 regional artists in the area of Arizona. All the artworks are for sale in this gallery and represent the cultural center of Chandler managed by the Chandler Cultural Foundation.

As mentioned earlier, the first veterinary of Arizona, Dr. Alexander John Chandler, from whom the city’s namesake was birthed, clearly paved the way to create a cohesive lifestyle between pets and their owners here. Every year, Chandler hosts festivals and costume parades celebrating pups; Woofstock offers luxurious packages that range from pet massages to a pet psychic. Chandler is also rife with dog-friendly restaurants, so if you have a pup, it will be well treated wherever it goes in the city.
